The White Ribbon also wins the Cannes FIPRESCI AWARD
Cannes FIPRESCI-jury agrees with Isabelle Huppert's festival jury: further to Cannes’ top prize Michael Haneke's The White Ribbon was also awarded the FIPRESCI-award for best film in competition and a Special Mention by jury of the Prix oecuménique.
La Pivellina: Best European Film in the Directors’ Fortnight
Tizza Covi and Rainer Frimmel’s La Pivellina has been awarded the Europa Cinemas Label as Best European Film in the Directors’ Fortnight section of the Cannes Film Festival. La Pivellina will now receive the support of the Europa Cinemas exhibitors who commit themselves to extend the length of its run on screen and additional promotion across the network.
Cannes 2009 with Haneke’s The White Ribbon and La Pivellina by Tizza Covi&Rainer Frimmel
Michael Haneke’s The White Ribbon will be one of the 20 contenders for the Palme d’Or at the 62nd Cannes Festival (May 13 - 24). Austria’s second Cannes entry is La Pivellina a first fiction feature by documentary filmmakers Tizza Covi & Rainer Frimmel, that will be showcased in the Quinzaine des Réalisateurs.

REVANCHE nominated for OSCAR
Götz Spielmann’s Revanche is one of the five nominees competing for the Oscar in the Best Foreign Language Film category. Spielmann’s fourth feature length film, a suspenseful and subtle drama on revenge and reconciliation, premiered in Berlin’s Panorama last year and has been awarded at numerous international film festival. The ceremony for the 81th Academy Awards will take place on February 22. The other contenders are:

Starke Österreich-Programme in MOSKAU und KARLOVY VARY
Beim Filmfestival von Moskau (19. bis 28. Juni) sind neben der internationalen Uraufführung von Ludwig Wüsts Koma im Wettbewerb für Debütfilme insgesamt sechs Arbeiten aus Österreich zu sehen Das Filmfestival von Karlovy Vary (3. bis 11. Juli) zeigt sieben Filme davon die internationalen Premieren von Muezzin von Sebastian Brameshuber, Contact High von Michael Glawogger sowie der Koproduktion Alive! von Artan Minarolli.
Deutscher Dokumentarfilmpreis 2009 an Let's Make MONEY
Erwin Wagenhofers Dokumentarfilm Let's Make MONEY wurde mit dem DEUTSCHEN DOKUMENTARFILMPREIS 2009 ausgezeichnet. Der Film war mit neun weiteren Arbeiten für diesen bedeutenden Filmpreis nominiert gewesen.
Europa Cinemas Label für La Pivellina
Tizza Covis und Rainer Frimmels Spielfilmdebüt La Pivellina, soeben beim Festival von Cannes in der Reihe Quinzaine des Réalisateurs uraufgeführt, wurde mit dem Preis Europa Cinemas Label ausgezeichnet. Der bei den Festivals Cannes Venedig, Berlin, Karlovy Vary vergebene Preis unterstützt Kinobetreiber, die den ausgezeichneten Film, über längere Zeit im Programm führen.
